ORLANDO – May 6, 2024 – Avient Corporation, a premier provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions and services, today announced it will feature the launch of its Cesa™ Non-PFAS Process Aid for Extrusion at NPE 2024 in Orlando, May 6-10. This processing aid, formulated without fluoropolymers, was developed specifically for use in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) applications and enables processing performance comparable to traditional fluoropolymer-based solutions.

Traditionally, process aids for extrusion often contain fluoropolymers which may be classifiable as per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS), a group of chemicals widely used in various products to impart properties such as resistance to heat, oil, stain, and water. However, environmental concerns about PFAS are growing because studies have shown many PFAS break down very slowly over time and can persist in water and soil. As a result, some countries are restricting PFAS, and there is growing pressure to ban all PFAS. This is causing processors to search for non-PFAS alternatives.

Delivering comparable processing performance to traditional processing aids, Avient’s Cesa Non-PFAS Process Aid reduces friction between the polymer and the metal, allowing the polymer to be more easily extruded. It aids in reducing melt fracture, eliminating die build-up, and lowering torque for higher throughput. Reducing melt fracture, also known as sharkskin, has the additional benefit of improving optical properties and providing a higher-quality product appearance.

“Our new Cesa processing aid helps to improve productivity and process stability for film or sheet extrusion, pipe extrusion, or extrusion blow molding,” said Mayendran Pillay, Marketing Director, Color & Additives North America at Avient. “We are pleased to offer our customers non-PFAS solutions with performance characteristics similar to traditional fluoropolymer-based options to help them respond to evolving regulatory conditions and support their sustainability goals.”

Cesa Non-PFAS Process Aid is currently manufactured in the United States and available in both the U.S. and Canada. Avient is exhibiting at NPE 2024 in Orlando from May 6-10 in room S210 in the South Hall. At the show, Sean Bernhardt, Senior Research and Development Manager, Color, Additives, & Inks, Americas at Avient, is presenting “PFAS Alternatives: 2024  and Beyond,” including the Cesa Non-PFAS Process Aid, on May 7 at 3 p.m. and May 8 at 1 p.m. Those interested in learning about or registering for this and other Avient technical seminars at NPE can click here.
